I had bookmarked this documentary a while ago and finally got around to watching it recently. I think this is one of those rare documentaries that could be classified as a work of art. It takes you through the life of Nikki Giovanni, scars and all, but the imagery and the music are carefully curated and blended together, creating new worlds. There are sequences that feel like dreams, old and new footage spliced together in a continuous tapestry.
It’s just joyously beautiful to watch.
