We have a little extra time during the holidaze to appreciate some of the simpler things. Not to be confused with The Secret Life of Pets (which is an animated film), The Secret Life of Animals on AppleTV and Prime is one of the most gorgeous nature shows on television. Narrated with a wink and a twerk by Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), there’s no better way to start the morning in the darkness of winter (without pills).
Short thirty minute episodes explore behaviors and adaptations rarely seen on film. At the end of each episode, they show how they actually filmed these extraordinary scenes (camera nerds take note). Some of the footage reminds me of Scavenger’s Reign — something from an alien planet similar to ours.
If you’re one who enjoys a kind of Die Hard fun this time of year, something full of testosterone, history, and a blink-and-you-miss-it gay subplot, I think you’re going to love Rogue Heroes. Think Slow Horses set in the African desert with lots of drunken soldiers who change the course of World War II. I hate most of the characters as much as I love them. And they love to show their butts, if you’re into that type of thing. A perfect winter binge with only six episodes and an ending that will leave you in state of, to quote Miss Layla: “Oh they in for some shit now.”
Thanks for the recommendation!
"...if you're into that type of thing."
Guilty as charged.
